Two new pest control guards for rooftop solar
Solar PV systems are the height of modern technology for the home, and a big investment for a homeowner — and the whole thing can be undone by a curious critter. That’s why a pest control barrier should be tacked on to most rooftop PV racking systems.
At the most basic level, a pest control barrier reduces the potential for costly property damage and repairs caused by critters nesting or chewing wires under arrays. A good pest control system also prevents debris buildup under panels, minimizing fire risks.
But not all pest control systems are created equal! Skimp here and your operations and maintenance (O&M) teams will have unkind words for you. Here are two new pest control barriers for solar systems to check out.
Unirac Critter Guard
Unirac offered a sneak peek at their new Critter Guard at RE+ 2024. That glimpse was enough to get it selected as one of the Top 5 Products at the show. Well, we stopped by the Unirac booth at Intersolar North America, and can report the Critter Guard is officially widely available.

SolaTrim ST-500 Pest Abatement Barrier
The long-time leader in this space, SolaTrim, just launched the new ST-500 panel.
