Unirac, Enphase, SolarEdge promote U.S. manufacturing capacity this week

United States solar product manufacturing

Solar manufacturing in the United States is ramping up. Much of the focus is on solar modules and cells, but racking suppliers and inverter brands are also shoring up domestic production. This week, Enphase, SolarEdge and Unirac each promoted their “domestic content” capacity.

“It is exciting to see how our industry is responding to the IRA and investing in US-based manufacturing,” said Peter Lorenz, CEO at Unirac. “As a result, solar energy will reach more homeowners and broader communities that otherwise couldn’t afford it. Unirac is proud to be part of this trend.”

Unirac

Unirac announced that it has U.S. solar racking solutions available and ready to ship. These U.S.-manufactured racking systems from Unirac can help solar installers achieve the qualification requirements for the Domestic Content Bonus Credit as defined in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Unirac’s residential solutions include a complete racking system with rails, attachments, and clamps. When combined with domestically manufactured MLPE equipment, solar installers can take advantage of the 10% bonus credit.

Enphase

Enphase IQ8HC

Speaking of MLPE, Enphase is currently shipping IQ8 Microinverters for residential (IQ8HC-72-M-US) and commercial (IQ8P-3P-72-M-US) applications from manufacturing partners in the United States.

“We have a product solution available today that puts the domestic content bonus tax credit within reach and can help increase access to solar energy across the United States,” said Ken Fong, vice president and general manager of the Americas at Enphase Energy. “Thanks to the IRA, we have additional opportunities to reach more people with clean energy, advance our domestic clean energy goals, and create high-quality American jobs. We are helping to make a meaningful impact on the future of energy in America.”

The domestic bonus tax credit is only available to commercial asset owners, which includes commercial businesses adding solar and PPA/lease providers who own residential solar projects.

SolarEdge

SolarEdge is now manufacturing in the U.S. as well via contract manufacturers. The first facility in Austin, Texas, opened in late 2023 and reached a quarterly manufacturing run rate of 50,000 residential Home Hub Inverters in Q2 2024. Following the opening of a second facility in Seminole, Florida, the Company has most recently shipped the first 20,000 “domestic content” Power Optimizers in Q2 2024.

When fully ramped, the Florida facility is expected to produce approximately 2 million domestic content Power Optimizer units per quarter, and has plans to begin commercial inverter and Power Optimizer production, in early 2025.
