Green Mountain Power adds Fortress Power to BYOD battery program

Green Mountain Power

Vermont homeowners in Green Mountain Power territory can now install a Fortress Power battery under the utility’s innovative Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. The GMP battery installation incentive can provide substantial rebates of up to $10,500.

“We’re excited to help homeowners save money while boosting their energy resilience,” said Brian London, VP of Energy Services for Fortress Power. “Our full lineup of battery products, including the eForce, Avalon Whole Home Energy Storage, and our 48V family, offers customers versatile and high-performance solutions that fit seamlessly into GMP’s BYOD program.”

Green Mountain Power BYOD Program

Green Mountain Power is renowned for this forward-thinking, renewable energy-focused initiatives. With the BYOD program, and sharing stored energy during peak energy use times, participating customers help reduce costs for all GMP customers.

This GMP BYOD program allows customers the flexibility to choose their preferred battery and decide how much stored energy they’ll share during peak usage times—with the rebate amount determined by the level of energy sharing.

These peak periods occur a few times per month. Customers can earn $850 per kW of storage for a three-hour battery discharge and $950 per kW for a four-hour discharge. Additionally, an extra $100 per kW incentive is available for retrofitting existing solar systems in areas where additional energy storage would be most beneficial for all GMP customers.

In addition, of course, the customers use the battery any other way they please, to reduce their grid usage or to ensure uninterrupted power during outages.

Fortress Power overview

Fortress Power offers several standalone batteries, but the Avalon Whole Home is its most recent and compelling system for solar + storage systems.

The spec sheet is impressive for a few reasons. Fortress focused on higher voltage architecture, and included innovative battery temperature management. They also purpose-built the hybrid inverter and Smart Energy Panel for the system. Fortress is so confident in how the Avalon functions, that it is offering a 15-year warranty on the battery – extendable to a 25-year with replacement – if you finance the system through them.
