King Energy cuts ribbon on Chino Hills solar installation

King Energy Chino Hills ribbon cutting

Multi-tenant commercial solar firm King Energy has finished construction on its new solar installation at Californian shopping mall The Shoppes at Chino Hills.

Located about 30 miles from Los Angeles in the suburb of Chino Hills, the new solar asset is a “milestone” achievement for the property, its tenants, and the community, King Energy says. The company adds that the project is a multi-array solar system, expressly designed to maximize onsite renewable energy generation across five different points on the property.

Rob Porter, King Energy’s CCO, says the five-point interconnection system has a cumulative impact of “close to two million kWh.”

“Tenants here are saving money and using clean energy,” Porter says. “The property owner has a new rent-paying tenant in King Energy. And the community benefits from distributed solar generated right here at the city center. That is the King Energy model working as designed.”

King Energy will manage all aspects of the system through to long-term operation and tenant billing, the company says.

Solar consolidation

The Chino Hills-based solar installation is a part of King Energy’s broader mission, officials from the Durango, Colorado-based firm say. The company aims to provide both financial and environmental value for communities by generating energy at the same place of its consumption. The practice reduces strain on the grid and creates value for commercial property owners, both of which are especially important in energy-hungry states like California.

The company’s software platform, OneBill, also consolidates utility and solar charges into a single billing transaction. All of this is in service of ease of use for tenants at King Energy’s projects, representatives say.

Chino Hills city council member Peter Rogers attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. He says the installation could potentially serve as a model system for future solar installations across the U.S.

“This project is more than just panels on a roof,” Rogers says. “It represents a serious commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking investment in our community. The Shoppes at Chino Hills is essentially our city center, and when our retail partners take the lead on initiatives like this, they make our community stronger and more attractive to residents and visitors alike.

“I hope this serves as a fantastic example for other commercial properties to follow.”

King Energy currently operates and manages more than 250 renewable energy projects, benefitting about 2,000 business tenants over 12 different states.
