CS Energy, Calibrant complete BESS triplet in N.Y. | Projects Weekly

Projects Weekly solar energy storage

In the latest edition of the Projects Weekly, CS Energy and Calibrant Energy team up for a trio of energy storage projects. Meanwhile, Enel begins operations at 202 MW solar + storage plant in Texas, and J.B. Hunt launches solar facility to offset up to 80% of the company’s power usage at its main corporate campus building in Arkansas.

CS Energy Calibrant battery energy storage system

CS Energy and Calibrant Energy have completed a portfolio of three stand-alone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Westchester County, New York. Strategically located in the towns of Hawthorne, Yorktown, and Ossining, these projects feature Tesla’s MegaPack2XL technology, delivering 4.9 MW, 4.2 MW, and 4.3 MW respectively. The systems will provide essential grid support during peak and seasonal demand periods, bolstering the resilience of New York’s energy infrastructure.

Cool Factor: Each site posed unique challenges — the Highland project on St. Augustine’s church and school campus, Broadway on local church parish property, and Gomer on private property behind a mechanic’s garage. These locations required scheduling equipment deliveries around school activities, festivals, and community activities.

“Close coordination with Tesla, property owners, and third-party stakeholders helped us successfully navigate unique site constraints and delivery schedules, particularly at the St. Augustine school campus and local church properties,” said Vyacheslav Gofshteyn, project manager at CS Energy.

Estonian Solar Enel Texas

Enel begins operations at 202 MW solar + storage plant in Texas

Enel North America has started operations at the Estonian solar + storage plant in Delta County, Texas. The 202 MW solar PV facility is paired with a 104 MW BESS.

Cool Factor: Estonian Solar is supported by a power purchase agreement (PPA) with BXP Inc., the largest publicly traded developer, owner, and manager of premier workplaces in the United States, for a 21 MW portion of the project. It is also supported by a PPA with Capri Holdings Limited, fashion luxury holding group and parent company to Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors.

Estonian Solar is expected to generate around 499 GWh of clean electricity each year. Construction of the plant involved around 400 construction jobs, along with several new permanent local positions for operations and maintenance. Over its lifetime, the hybrid project is expected to generate over $23 million in new local tax revenue for schools and public services.

JB Hunt solar Next Era Verogy

J.B. Hunt adds solar to offset 80% power usage at Arkansas HQ

Logistics and freight company J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has launched a solar facility in Gentry, Arkansas, that will generate enough electricity to offset up to 80% of the power used by its three main corporate campus buildings in Lowell.

Construction of the facility began in 2024. The project was managed by NextEra Energy and completed by Verogy. Both Trio (formerly Edison Energy) and Carroll Electric Cooperative Corporation provided ongoing consultation throughout planning and development.

Cool Factor: The 40-acre solar facility includes nearly 18,000 solar panels and more than 10,000 bifacial solar modules to capture sunlight, which is then converted to electricity and transmitted to a nearby electric grid for Carroll County Electric. The facility will produce approximately 9.3 GWh annually and use net metering, which helps transfer surplus power onto the power grid.

“By commissioning this solar facility, J.B. Hunt is demonstrating our commitment to enhancing the communities we serve and to investing in economically viable practices aimed at creating a more sustainable supply chain,” said Greer Woodruff, executive VP of safety, sustainability and maintenance at J.B. Hunt.
