Energy Vault announces BESS agreement with AI hyperscalers

Energy Vault Holdings Inc. has announced the execution of a “strategic commercial agreement,” under the terms of which it will supply battery systems to hyperscalers for AI data centers.
In total, the agreement will support an initial deployment of 1.25 GW of integrated power infrastructure through Energy Vault’s battery technology. The deal aims to establish a replicable platform, the company says, combining dispatchable power generation, intelligent battery systems, turnkey EPC and plant integration, and other factors into a singular integrated energy solution for data centers.
“Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing how critical power infrastructure is designed, deployed and operated,” says Robert Piconi, chairman and CEO of Energy Vault. “Customers are no longer procuring individual technologies—they require integrated power infrastructure capable of delivering reliable, always-on electricity at unprecedented speed and scale. With this agreement we have created a highly differentiated platform that combines industry-leading power generation, intelligent energy storage and advanced power plant software into a single integrated solution purpose-built for AI infrastructure.”
The new solution has been designed with the intention to support FEOC-compliant battery deployments, Energy Vault officials say. The initial deal, set to deploy over the next four to twelve months, is also backed by an unnamed hyperscaler customer contact set for deployment in Texas.
“As our largest single contract executed to date, this milestone agreement represents another important step in Energy Vault’s strategic evolution from an energy storage technology pioneer into an integrated energy infrastructure provider,” Piconi continues. “More importantly, it establishes a repeatable commercial platform that we believe can support substantial future expansion as hyperscaler AI infrastructure investments continue to accelerate globally.”
A singular BESS solution
Energy Vault says its integrated battery systems operate somewhat differently from traditional BESS deployments. The firm says more traditional BESS products are independent from one another on an asset level, but its integrate platform “continuously orchestrates and optimizes the generation, battery storage, power conversion, redundancy systems and electrical infrastructure.”
This, officials say, allows the entire system to move as a single intelligent power plant.
“Energy Vault’s BESS, grid-forming technology and software platform are central to this solution,” says a senior executive at Energy Vault’s strategic power infrastructure partner. “By integrating those systems into our modular plant design, we can bring large blocks of dependable power online quickly while maintaining the performance, scalability and flexibility that hyperscale campuses require.”
Once fully deployed, the AI-based energy infrastructure will control software functions within the system, representatives add. The battery system will be able to dynamically balance power flows, maintain voltage levels, and improve fuel efficiency. The architecture also enables customer deployment of AI infrastructure before connecting to the grid, while also allowing for full utility power flexibility.
Energy Vault says it plans to pursue not only additional hyperscaler opportunities, but neocloud and AI infrastructure avenues. The company will continuously reach into markets where constrained grid capacity and interconnection timelines are driving need for rapidly deployable batteries, it says.
