Budderfly supplying solar and storage makeover to Pennsylvania hotel
Energy efficiency firm Budderfly has partnered with Delta Hotels by Marriott Allentown Lehigh Valley, in a bid to modernize the hotel’s energy infrastructure.
The partnership project aims to deliver a “comprehensive energy infrastructure modernization,” Budderfly representatives say. This includes a parking lot solar canopy and battery storage, as well as combined heat and power, water conservation technology, and other advancements.
Budderfly CEO Al Subbloie says his company is seeing a shift in the hospitality industry. Owners are rethinking how they invest in the “behind the scenes” of it all, reimagining the infrastructure holding up the guest experiences. That change opens the door for energy firms like Budderfly to work with hotels on rethinking their energy plans.
“Energy-as-a-Service gives hotels a way to modernize critical building systems without diverting capital from other strategic priorities,” Subbloie says. “Forward-thinking hospitality operators like Delta Hotels are looking for new ways to manage costs and improve operational performance, and our model offers a comprehensive approach to modernizing the infrastructure that powers their properties.”
The project makes full use of the energy-as-a-service (EaaS) model, the company says, and marks the firm’s continued expansion into the hospitality sector. Promising no upfront costs and a turnkey energy infrastructure solution, the company has already made strides in markets including restaurants, retail, and other commercial ventures.
Budderfly branching out in business
The hotel project aims to not only build on Budderfly’s decade-long track record of commercial and industrial energy service, but help the company get a foothold in yet another market in the form of hospitality.
“We believe exceptional guest experiences begin with strong operations behind the scenes,” says Jason Allan, senior regional director of operations at Palette Hotels. “Energy accounts for one of our largest operating expenses, making it one of the most significant costs we can manage.

Under the terms of the partnership, Budderfly will fund, install, monitor, maintain, and continuously optimize the infrastructure of the project. The new model both reduces energy consumption and eliminates potential complexities brought on by multiple providers and managers.
