Mayfield Renewables appoints new CEO as founder focuses on education, codes

Mayfield Renewables

Mayfield Renewables has a lot going on. In addition to its solar + storage consulting engineering work, the Mayfield team is building a comprehensive education program, which includes hosting the in-person Mayfield Renewables Education Summit this October. To effectively grow in both areas, Mayfield has appointed Jacob Betcher as its new CEO.

“As we in the industry know, our work is becoming more complex as the transition to distributed energy resources and microgrids accelerates. And therefore, the demand for technical expertise and industry acumen continues to grow,” says General Manager Laurel Hamilton. “The addition of Jacob to the leadership team creates the opportunity to grow consulting engineering and education and training simultaneously.”

Since its founding in 2007, Mayfield Renewables has always focused on both consulting engineering and education and training simultaneously. With Betcher onboard as CEO, Founder Ryan Mayfield will now focus on the business’s education offerings and become more active in the codes and standards communities, a long-standing passion for him.

“This decision positions Mayfield to make a greater impact in our rapidly growing industry and will allow all of us within the company to focus on our strengths and contribute more to the industry we love so much,” Mayfield said.

Betcher is an accomplished engineering professional and proven business leader, who has previously built up Apricity, which was acquired by Generac Power Systems in 2021.

“This decision creates the opportunity to grow both consulting engineering and education & training in parallel. These are distinct services, but they enhance one another,” Betcher said. He is eager to advance the Mayfield vision to provide technical expertise to project developers, EPCs, manufacturers, and industry professionals.

Mayfield Education Focus

Mayfield Renewables recently announced their inaugural Education Summit, to be held Oct. 2-3 at the University of Texas at Austin. We chatted with Ryan and Laurel Hamilton, about what to expect at the Education Summit in this edition of The Buzz:

Mayfield Renewables is also teaming with Outfit to produce the Dispatches from the Energy Transition webinar series, which focuses on mid-market solar + storage projects. Episode 1 went in-depth on the Microgrid Feasibility Study of eight remote Alaskan villages. Episode 3 is set for Aug. 20, and will explore the impact of energy intelligence from the field with HelioVolta CEO David Penalva, Luke Nichols, Director of Project Management at Onyx Renewables.
