Four schools go solar in Trumbull, Connecticut via Greenskies Renewable Energy

Greenskies Renewable Energy LLC completed the installation of solar arrays at four schools in Trumbull, Connecticut. The projects will significantly lower the annual electric costs at Madison Middle School, Hillcrest Middle School, Trumbull High School, and Frenchtown Elementary School.

“The energy plan was developed shortly after my arrival in Trumbull in 2014. Trumbull was faced with fifty-year-old boilers, pneumatic controls, and standard T-8 lighting in seven of our ten schools,” said Mark Deming, Director of Facilities for Trumbull. “Incorporating solar into our overall plan was just the right thing to do for environmental and financial reasons. Bundling these projects allowed us to accomplish more in a shorter period of time.”

In addition to the solar arrays, which were funded by Greenskies with no upfront cost, Trumbull invested approximately $6 million in LED retrofits, seven new building management systems, nine boiler-room renovations, and four building retrofits.

PV in schools: Education sector is one of solar’s best opportunities

“Greenskies, a Clean Focus company, is pleased to work with the Town of Trumbull in lowering its energy costs. Not only do the schools ‘go green’ and improve the environment, but also they allow Trumbull to redirect savings into other important programs and services,” said Stanley Chin, President and CEO of Greenskies and the Clean Focus group.

The solar projects and other projects undertaken by Trumbull will drive costs down by $800,000 annually. Each Trumbull school project will create savings for the town through a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), and will be owned and operated by Clean Focus.

The Clean Focus group of companies originates, develops, finances, constructs, owns, and operates renewable-energy projects in the United States, Taiwan, and China. Clean Focus Yield owns and operates clean, renewable-energy projects in commercial, industrial, small-utility, and community solar.

We have a ton video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power Forward! -- a collaboration with BayWa r.e. to discuss higher level industry topics as well as best practices / trends for running a solar business today.

Our longer running side project is The Pitch -- in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technology and ideas so that you don't have to. We've discusses everything from residential rail-less deck attaching and home solar financing to large-scale energy storage value stacking and utility-driven new home solar + storage microgrids.

We also post our Project of the Year announcements there! Interviews with this year's winners will be up starting the week of Nov. 8. Head there and subscribe today to stay on top of all this extra stuff.
