Geronimo Power cuts ribbon on Jackson County Solar | Projects Weekly

Projects Weekly solar energy storage

This edition of Projects Weekly kicks off with Geronimo Power’s 125 MW Jackson County Solar project in Michigan that will connect to the utility grid. Plus, we look at Fortress Power’s partnership with TerraSol Energies to build a solar + storage project at a Toyota dealership in Pennsylvania. Soluna has partnered with KULR Technology Group to provide renewable-powered data center services for bitcoin mining; and PowerBank is building a 6.9 MW solar project in the Capital District, New York.

Geronimo Power constructs Michigan solar project

Geronimo Power hosted a ribbon-cutting event for its 125 MW Jackson County Solar project in Michigan. Bringing together project partners, landowners, and community members, the event celebrated the significant efforts made to bring the project to fruition and highlighted the substantial benefits it will bring to the local community.

“Every successful project starts with people, from our landowners and project partners to the local community leaders,” said David Reamer, chief development officer at Geronimo. “When industry and community come together, we’re boosting rural economies that are at the heart of America, and delivering dependable, reliable energy that people can count on for years to come.”

Event attendees participated in a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the project, providing an up-close view of the construction process. Stops on the tour included the Callahan Substation, which will connect the project to the electric grid, as well as a tour through the panel area to learn more about the technology. The event concluded with a formal ribbon-cutting to commemorate the project nearing completion.

Cool factor: Once operational, Jackson County Solar is expected to contribute more than $71 million in direct economic impact to the local area. This includes $28 million in new tax revenue, which will be distributed to local counties, townships and school districts. Additionally, the project is expected to generate enough clean, renewable energy to provide the equivalent electrical usage of an estimated 33,600 homes each year.

“Huge credit to Geronimo for their vision and success on the Jackson County Solar project, Barnhart for their execution, and Consumers Energy for ensuring clean, reliable power to Michigan homes,” said Nextracker founder and CEO Dan Shugar. “We’re especially proud that critical steel components for Nextracker’s solar tracker systems were built with U.S.-sourced steel from Ohio and Indiana and manufactured locally supporting American jobs and strengthening the Midwest supply chain. This project is proof that solar power is driving U.S. economic growth and building energy security for the region.”

Fortress Power, TerraSol deliver solar + storage project at Team Toyota

Fortress Power TeamToyota Pennsylvania solar storage

Fortress Power partnered with TerraSol Energies to deliver a landmark solar + storage project for Team Toyota of Glen Mills. The installation features an 820 kWh Fortress Power eSpire commercial energy storage system paired with a 700 kW solar array.

Cool factor: The new solar + storage system will generate roughly 800,000 kWh of clean energy each year, helping Team Toyota save more than $2 million in energy costs over the next 25 years.

“This project is a perfect example of what can be achieved when three Philadelphia-area companies, Team Toyota, TerraSol Energies, and Fortress Power, come together with a shared vision for clean, reliable energy,” said Jing Yu, CEO of Fortress Power. “It’s a proud moment for local innovation and a demonstration of how collaboration drives progress in the renewable energy industry.”

Soluna partners with bitcoin company to power data center

Green data center developer Soluna Holdings Inc. announced a new hosting partnership with KULR Technology Group Inc., a Bitcoin+ treasury company that builds a portfolio of frontier technology businesses ranging from high-performance energy systems to AI Robotics. The agreement reflects Soluna’s strategy to adapt its renewable-powered hosting model to meet the developing demand profiles of Bitcoin mining and adjacent industries.

“This partnership represents a new chapter in how we serve the market,” said John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna.“ Treasury companies like KULR are increasingly seeking sustainable, high-performance computing infrastructure to diversify their digital asset strategies. We’re proud to pioneer a flexible hosting model that meets this evolving demand.”

Cool factor: Under this agreement, Soluna will operate approximately 3.3 MW of Bitcoin mining capacity for KULR at its Project Sophie facility in Kentucky. The exciting partnership marks the first time Soluna has partnered with a Bitcoin treasury-focused company, expanding the company’s customer base beyond traditional Bitcoin miners and hyperscalers.

The 3.3 MW deployment at Project Sophie is expected to commence operations in Q4 2025, further strengthening Soluna’s leadership in sustainable computing infrastructure. Under the partnership, KULR will leverage Soluna’s operational and market expertise to purchase, service, and manage all activities associated with its fleet of mining hardware over the life of the contract.

PowerBank to build 6.9 MW solar project in Albany, New York

PowerBank Corp. has executed a lease agreement on a 6.9 MWdc ground-mount solar power project known as the NY-Crawford Rd project, in the Capital District, in Albany, New York. The project is expected to be eligible for incentives under the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) NY-Sun Program.

The company is in the process of submitting the interconnection application and has initiated the preliminary screening analysis as part of the initial interconnection steps. Assuming receipt of interconnection approval, the Company will work to complete the permitting process and secure the necessary financing for the construction of the Project.

Cool factor: Once completed, the project will be operated as a community solar project. The Crawford Rd Project advances New York’s ambitious Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act goal of 6 GW of solar capacity by 2025. As a national leader in community solar, New York accounts for nearly one-third of the United States’ 6.2 GW of installed solar capacity, and PowerBank is honored to contribute to this transformative milestone.
