Pine Gate Renewables’ 108-MW Trent River solar project now online

Trent River Solar project

Pine Gate Renewable‘s Trent River Solar project located in Pollocksville, N.C., is now online and generating 108 MW of energy. The project is one of the first to be awarded a 20-year PPA through Duke Energy’s Competitive Procurement of Renewable Energy (CPRE) program.

Trent River Solar broke ground in July 2020 and reached its commercial operation date this month. The site features 832,170 solar panels covering about 725 acres, which provide power to more than 16,000 homes a year. The clean energy generated by Trent River is equivalent to removing 134,094 tons of greenhouse gas emissions or 148 million pounds of coal burned.

“We’re thrilled to bring low cost, clean power options to the local residents and businesses of Jones County,” said Ben Catt, CEO of Pine Gate Renewables. “It’s exciting to see such a big project like Trent River Solar come to life. This is another testament to Blue Ridge Power’s team of in-house experts, who conducted all the engineering, procurement and construction for this project.”

Trent River Solar is only the latest Pine Gate Renewables site to go online amongst its portfolio of 36 solar projects already in operation or under construction in North Carolina. Silver Pine Energy Holdings and Pine Gate Renewables are joint venture partners for the project.
