Savant harnesses VPP capabilities in new software release

Smart home and smart power technology provider Savant has unveiled new virtual power plant (VPP) capabilities with its latest software release, dubbed SavantOS 11.1.
In partnership with Virtual Peaker, a software platform that connects energy management systems to utilities, Savant Power Storage systems can now support the grid by dispatching stored energy during peak demand periods. This integration will accelerate Savant’s collaboration with utilities across the country, enabling homeowners to participate in regional VPP programs, help reduce strain on the grid, and earn significant rebates where available.
A VPP is a network of decentralized energy sources (e.g., homes with solar and battery systems installed), that can work collectively to function as a power plant. A virtual power plant combines energy from these sources to reduce overall demand during times of exceptionally high or peak usage. This alternative to coal-fired power plants delivers a clean energy alternative while actively contributing to a more resilient and sustainable grid. Homeowners who participate in these programs allow the local utility to access their stored energy while being compensated for the energy they contribute.
“Savant Power Storage solutions are now Virtual Power Plant-ready, enabling homeowners with a Savant energy system to support the grid and unlock new value from their home’s smart technologies,” said Nicole Madonna, VP of product management at Savant. “Savant’s scalable power storage solution delivers flexibility, resilience, and advanced energy management, and now featuring VPP capabilities, our systems can share real-time energy data with utilities, respond to demand response events, and send stored energy back to the grid.”
Savant is now part of Green Mountain Power’s (GMP) Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, with Savant’s Power Storage 20 and Power Storage 50 systems both named as approved batteries. With GMP’s BYOD program, homeowners can earn significant upfront rebates — up to $10,500. On peak demand days, GMP partners with customers to share energy, lowering costs and carbon for all GMP customers. Vermont residents can explore GMP’s BYOD program and rebates now.
