Solesca adds bankable SolarFarmer simulation engine for faster, lender-grade project design

Designers can now move from site layout to high-quality energy assessment in minutes, with DNV’s proven SolarFarmer engine integrated directly into the Solesca platform

Solesca has tightened the link between project design and project finance. At RE+ 2025, the company announced that DNV’s SolarFarmer power model—the same simulation engine used in underwriting more than 2 GW of U.S. projects—has been embedded directly into the Solesca Design platform.

The move makes Solesca the first design tool to pair lightning-fast layouts with a bankable energy simulation. Users can now generate SolarFarmer outputs in minutes without exporting files or toggling between separate applications. Results are available as downloadable PDF reports or 8760 outputs for detailed financial modeling.

That distinction matters because energy yield assumptions often determine whether a project secures financing. Developers have historically had to choose between speed and lender-grade accuracy—quick layouts with rough numbers or a slower path to bankable results. Solesca says the SolarFarmer integration eliminates that trade-off.

“Financing kills more solar deals than engineering,” said Rocco Fucetola, COO of Solesca. “By putting SolarFarmer where teams already work, we remove the guesswork that can lead to lender discounting while giving developers one place to design fast and model with confidence.”

SolarFarmer’s detailed modeling engine goes deeper than many alternatives, handling sub-hourly data and complex shading scenarios that reflect the realities of today’s project configurations. That capability is now paired with Solesca’s automation features, which include generating IX packages, auto walkways, and snow/soiling loss calculations.

Solesca has already been used to screen more than 100 GW of projects, often by non-technical users looking to assess sites quickly. By combining lender-grade modeling with a platform that can lay out commercial and ground-mount systems in minutes, the company hopes to make the transition from concept to financing smoother for developers of all sizes.
