LONGi reports on carbon emissions reduction efforts

The embodied carbon of a solar panel is a metric of interest for many clean energy buyers. In its 2023 Climate Action White Paper, released at COP28, LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., reports that it slashed operational emissions per revenue unit by nearly 40 percent in 2022. Additionally, 47 percent of LONGi’s total electricity consumption is now sourced from sustainable alternatives, eliminating approximately 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The annual report, now in its third year, tracks the progress of LONGi’s stated goal of a net-zero future. Other achievements featured in the report include how LONGi is the first Chinese solar industry player to secure approval from the Science-based Target Initiative (SBTi) for near-term targets. LONGi also embraced the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure.

On June 26th of this year, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) was invited by China to release the first two disclosure guidelines, marking a common benchmark for sustainable information disclosure globally. Recently, LONGi obtained the ISSB “Partnership for Early Awareness of Sustainability-Disclosure Today” (P4EAST) from Beijing International Sustainability Conference. LONGi hopes to drive upstream and downstream enterprises in the photovoltaic industry to learn and understand ISSB guidelines.
