JA Solar Holdings Co., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high-performance solar power products, announced the availability of a new line of easy-to-install Spice Solar frame solar modules. JA Solar modules with Spice frames install faster than ordinary modules with fewer parts, saving rooftop installers time and money on every job.
The Spice version of JA Solar modules utilize 60 cell laminates and a heavy-duty, extruded, aluminum frame. This special, Spice frame is strong enough to allow the modules to be attached directly to the roof, eliminating racking. JA-Spice Solar modules snap together in rows and columns, can handle up to 72-in. attachment spans and need only one grounding point for each array.
“We are delighted to offer JA Solar modules with Spice frames to residential installers in the U.S.,” said Wei Shan, Chief Technology Officer of JA Solar. “By eliminating rails and complicated fasteners, residential installers in the U.S. can dramatically reduce their parts and labor costs on every job. Installers only need to stock one system on their trucks that works on all residential roof types, both portrait and landscape orientations, and all typical wind and snow conditions in the U.S.”
“An ordinary rack-mounted system requires over 300 individual parts and fasteners – with a Spice system only 50 parts are required. As a result, our residential solar installers have reduced their costs by $0.30/watt or more,” said Barry Cinnamon, CEO of Spice Solar. “Spice Solar systems also meet the latest U.S. safety requirements, including UL-1703, UL-2703 and Class A Fire Codes.”
Spice Solar dramatically reduces installation costs for rooftop solar by integrating the racking directly in the panel frames, thereby reducing the cost of parts, as well as reducing direct and indirect labor. Based on decades of rooftop solar product development and installation experience, Spice Solar offers a family of easy-to-use installation components that work on all residential roof types, install in both portrait and landscape orientations throughout the U.S., and are optimized to work with Spice Certified solar modules.

We have a ton video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power Forward! -- a collaboration with BayWa r.e. to discuss higher level industry topics as well as best practices / trends for running a solar business today.
Our longer running side project is The Pitch -- in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technology and ideas so that you don't have to. We've discusses everything from residential rail-less deck attaching and home solar financing to large-scale energy storage value stacking and utility-driven new home solar + storage microgrids.
We also post our Project of the Year announcements there! Interviews with this year's winners will be up starting the week of Nov. 8. Head there and subscribe today to stay on top of all this extra stuff.
