Yotta Block is both a battery and ballast block for rooftop solar

Yotta Block

Yotta Energy is the battery company that’s zeroed in on solar panel-level energy storage with its flagship SolarLEAF product. Over the years, this product has evolved the dual purpose of acting as a “ballast” block for certain commercial rooftop racking systems. That feature is now expressly part of the product line, as Yotta Energy is rebranding SolarLeaf as the Yotta Block.

“By designing a battery that replaces a standard ballast block, we’ve eliminated installation barriers and freed up valuable rooftop space—all without sacrificing power or intelligence,” said Jordan Harris, CEO of Yotta Energy. It’s the perfect solution for businesses looking to cut energy costs and boost sustainability.”

Yotta Block overview

Yotta Blocks come in expandable 1kWh storage increments to match evolving energy needs of a building. Yotta Block is a battery that plugs in directly behind a PV module, eliminating the need for dedicated battery storage space. This can streamline design, permitting, and installation, and can be especially helpful in urban city centers averse to placing large battery systems indoors.

And now, let it be known, Yotta Block is a 1-for-1 ballast block replacement, making it a completely plug-play design, low-voltage DC ESS product that does not require additional skilled labor.

Overcoming C&I storage road blocks

Only ~3% of the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector has solar PV, and even fewer have storage. A primary challenge the C&I market faces is space and installation complexity. Traditional battery storage requires additional infrastructure, electrical work, and engineering.

Yotta Block is compelling because it changes this dynamic by making energy storage easier to permit, install, and scale.

“We continue to expand our service offerings and project innovation solutions with the Yotta Energy family of products. Yotta’s product reliability and service has proven successful in over one hundred E2SOL commercial projects,” said Anthony Baro, founder and managing principal at E2SOL.

Yotta Block notes

  • Yotta Block works with high-capacity PV modules and multiple racking systems.
  • Passive cooling technology maximizes battery life and safety while minimizing O&M costs
  • Directly connects with Yotta’s Dual Power Inverters (DPI) for 208V or 480V 3-phase output and Yotta’s Energy Management Platform

Yotta Block is more than just a name change, as Yotta Energy enhanced the original SolarLEAF in the following ways, to lean into this functionality as a dynamic ballast block:

  • Broader compatibility with various racking systems
  • Faster installation through one-for-one replacement of ballast blocks
  • Fewer components through streamlined engineering reduces costs and improves efficiency
  • Remote monitoring with analytics, diagnostics, and performance reporting
