This year at the RE+ tradeshow in Anaheim, CA, Generac, a U.S.-based, leading global designer, manufacturer and provider of energy technology solutions and other power products, announced the launch of its new PWRcell 2 Home Energy Storage System product series, featuring PWRcell 2 and PWRcell 2 MAX.

The PWRcell 2 Series empowers installers to succeed with a more powerful, resilient and smart home energy ecosystem, as well as a lead-driven path to business growth, all backed by a national network of expert sales, installation, and service support.

PWRcell 2 vs PWRcell 2 MAX

The PWRcell 2 Home Energy Storage System is AC-coupled and includes a modular battery cabinet, an inverter, and a smart disconnect switch (SDS). The system delivers up to 18 kWh of storage capacity in a single cabinet, which is 33% more backup capability than other industry leaders. That could be the difference between keeping the lights, fridge, A/C or other essential loads running during an outage.

PWRcell 2 has enough power to start virtually any load, including a 5-ton A/C unit, so homeowners don’t have to sacrifice comfort when using battery backup. If even more power is needed, the smart disconnect switch enables system expansion up to 19.2 kW of AC-coupled PV, as well as expansion to include 2 inverters and 4 battery cabinets for up to 72 kWh of storage and 23 kW continuous power. The SDS also provides an uninterrupted power transition, so homeowners don’t even notice when the power goes out and their sensitive electronics stay protected.

PWRcell 2 MAX, available 2H 2025, has all the great features from PWRcell 2 but also introduces high-efficiency battery modules capable of greater power throughput and optimal performance in wider temperature and state of charge (SOC) ranges. PWRcell 2 MAX will be the most powerful battery yet with up to 11.5 kW max continuous power and a total LRA greater than 200 with just one inverter and battery cabinet, capable of starting multiple A/C units or other large loads.
