Enphase announces first U.S. commercial battery shipments for early 2027

Energy technology firm Enphase Energy Inc. has opened preorders for its first commercial battery storage system in the U.S. market, promising to launch the product in the first half of 2027.
Official titled the IQ Battery C80, the system is an all-in-one, AC-coupled battery that can deliver 80 kWh of energy capacity within its compact enclosure. Enphase officials say the battery will provide up to 40 kVA of continuous power with one system, which comes complete with battery packs and microinverters already fully integrated.
The battery will utilize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry technology, the company says, delivering more than 90% AC round-trip efficiency. Additionally, the batteries will able to stay operational in a wide range of ambient temperatures, testing successfully between -22°F to 131°F.
“We designed the IQ Battery C80 to make commercial storage simpler to deploy, easier to scale, and more resilient,” says Aaron Gordon, senior VP and general manager of the systems business unit at Enphase Energy. “With 208 V and 480 V configurations, it will serve applications ranging from multifamily properties to large commercial and industrial facilities.”
Enphase says it expects the new battery to be produced entirely at U.S. manufacturing facilities, making the product 100% FEOC compliant.
Promising ease of installation and use
The new battery will be available in two different three-phase configuration models, the company says. The battery system’s 120Y/208 V model will deliver 33 kVA for multifamily properties and smaller commercial buildings, while the 277Y/480 V model will be able to handle 40 kVA for larger commercial, and even industrial applications.
Both configurations, officials add, will be able to support Enphase Power Control software, already certified to UL 3141 and enabling two-hour or four-hour battery system designs.
“Busbar and feeder overload controls will enable flexible wiring, help reduce balance-of-system infrastructure costs, and potentially avoid unnecessary electrical equipment upgrade,” the company says. “The AC-coupled architecture will also allow IQ Battery C80 to pair with third-party commercial three-phase solar inverters for both new and retrofit projects.”
The Enphase team has engineered the C80 for safety at the module, the company says. The new battery system will feature smoke and gas sensors on each module, complete with active pressure release and support for fire alarm control panel integration and emergency stop functions. The firm is also aiming for UL 9540A and large-scale fire test protocol certification, as it hopes to cut down on thermal runaway and other prevalent battery safety issues.
Preorders for the IQ Battery C80 are open as of Aug. 18, Enphase representatives say. Shipments are expected to begin in the first half of 2027, and the system will be backed by a 15-year limited warranty.
