Fronius, Renon unveil new high-voltage storage combination

The new Renon Xtreme HV 1.0 battery system

Solar manufacturers Fronius and Renon have announced a new DC-coupled inverter and battery combination, promising “uninterrupted power” for residential solar systems.

The new battery system, known as the Renon Xtreme HV 1.0, is set to release in North America Feb. 12. Officials say the battery is fully compatible with Fronius’s GEN24 and GEN24 Plus solar inverter product lines.

The Renon Xtreme HV 1.0 sports a high-voltage range of 192-384 V, minimizing transmission losses throughout the scalable battery system. Thanks to the firm’s modular design philosophy, the new system also supports two to four stacked modules, allowing for higher levels of reliability.

Boasting an energy management system, an optimizer rated for up to 8,000 cycles, and smart management WiFi connectivity, Renon representatives say the new product supports “homeowners seeking true energy independence.”

“Homeowners want flexibility without compromising battery performance,” says Paul Buckwalter, head of Renon USA. “Furthermore, they can secure that with Renon Xtreme HV 1.0’s high-efficient and high-voltage energy storage that’s ready to deliver 8,000 cycles for energy output and can be paired seamlessly to the Fronius GEN24 Plus.”

Strategic partnership flourishing

Touted as “future-ready,” the Fronius GEN24 solar inverter launched in mid-2024, shortly before its hybrid inverter upgrade, the GEN24 Plus, hit the market later that year. The two product lines promised high efficiency, alongside active cooling technology and a shade monitoring system.

Attaching the inverter system to the newest Renon battery system allows for energy-efficient high performance, the companies say, alongside an “intelligent” battery management system built to optimize energy usage. Customers can perform energy management tasks through the Fronius Solar.start and Solar.web apps, and also benefit from the company’s Energy Cost Assistant through its Solar.web Premium feature.

Chris Connell, head of solutions for Fronius USA, endorsed the new battery system, saying it delivers “intelligent, efficient, and future-ready energy independence” for the residential market.

The Renon partnership between the two firms includes a variety of products, including the Xcellent Plus, EBrick, ECube 60AP, and the MPack 233A. Outside of their work with the McKinney, Texas-based battery firm, Fronius works with other companies around the world including MidNite Solar, who have also made use of the GEN24 with the MidNite Rosie inverter.

The new Renon battery is the next evolution in the partnership between the two companies, and the firms will host a joint livestream Feb. 26 to speak on the partnership and announce further energy storage opportunities.

Tests on the new product have been successful, according to representatives from the two firms, with the inverter-battery combination earning UL 9540/UL 9540A safety requirements during the testing phase. The combined products have earned certification for multiple safety standards under the UL, IEC, and IEEE testing programs.
