Opdenergy has announced the closing of a new 20-year PPA with Entergy Louisiana, a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, and will build a 160 MWdc solar PV plant in Allen Parish, Louisiana. Entergy Louisiana will purchase 100% of the energy generated by this project.

Opdenergy continues to develop this new PV plant in the United States and expects to begin construction in January 2023 and complete the grid connection in the first quarter of 2024. Once operational, it will be expected to generate approximately 302,000MWh of clean energy per year.

The contract will be presented to the Louisiana Public Service Commission for approval in conjunction with a voluntary Green Tariff designed to allow customers to participate at various levels depending on their objectives.

In signing this new agreement, the company confirms its commitment to consolidate its position in the renewable energy sector in the United States. As a result of this PPA and the ones secured during the first half of the year, the amount of secured PPAs in the United States has reached 413 MWdc. Through a total pipeline of more than 2GW in different stages of development across the U.S., Opdenergy continues to actively develop renewable assets in the United States.

The company has demonstrated its strong capabilities when it comes to securing PPAs before assets are operational. It has already secured PPAs for over 2GW globally. The company has secured PPAs covering 584MW of its current operating portfolio and 1,500MW of future projects throughout a multitude of countries where it operates.

“This project will provide significant benefits to the area, including jobs, economic growth and relevant tax revenues for Allen Parish, while contributing toward a more sustainable future in Louisiana. The United States is one of our main targeted countries, and this new milestone endorses our long-term strategy. We are very excited to sign this new agreement with Entergy Louisiana.” said Luis Cid, CEO of Opdenergy.

“We’re excited to help provide affordable, reliable and green energy for our communities,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “Our partnership with Opdenergy will help us meet those goals for the people of Allen Parish. We look forward to working together to help paint a brighter future for Louisiana.”
