EnergySage and Third Act partner to rally Boomers behind rooftop solar

In a move that could help demystify rooftop solar for a key demographic of homeowners—and maybe give the industry a much-needed boost—EnergySage is teaming up with Third Act, the climate action group founded by longtime environmentalist Bill McKibben, to make residential solar more accessible and appealing to older Americans.

It’s a clever pairing. EnergySage is best known for its comparison-shopping marketplace and customer support tools for clean energy upgrades, while Third Act has carved out a growing niche in climate organizing among people over 60—many of whom are retired, own homes, and are searching for ways to take tangible climate action.

“We know local solar is smarter solar—but myths still persist,” said McKibben in the announcement. “With this partnership, we’re making it easier than ever for people to take their power back—literally.”

Right Idea, Right Time?

The timing is no coincidence. Residential solar installations are down, in part due to high interest rates, low utility rates in some markets, and confusion about incentives. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking on the 30% federal solar tax credit for homeowners.

That context gives extra weight to the message behind this partnership, which kicks off with a free educational webinar, “Go Solar in 2025! Your Questions Answered,” on July 15. The goal: Give people the straight facts about costs, savings, and incentives—while there’s still time to take full advantage of them.

The webinar will feature clean energy experts, a live Q&A, and promises to unpack the process in plain language. It’s meant for the solar-curious, especially those unsure whether it’s right for them or how to get started.

What’s on Offer?

Through the EnergySage platform, homeowners can:

  • Check if their roof is a good fit for solar;
  • Get multiple quotes from pre-screened installers;
  • And connect with a dedicated Energy Advisor—think of it as a solar Sherpa—to help them navigate the process.

Third Act sees this as one piece of a larger campaign to mobilize older Americans around climate and democracy issues. Their “Sun Day” event on September 21, 2025, is expected to feature community solar education, public art, and local events across the country.

“Third Act has a unique and powerful voice in the climate movement,” said Charlie Hadlow, President and COO of EnergySage. “We’re proud to support their mission by offering trustworthy tools and expert guidance to help people take real climate action at home.”
