Cape Cod now has 225-kW Roof Mounted System
Onset, a supplier of data loggers, today announced the installation of a new, 225-kW, roof-mounted photovoltaic system at the company’s Cape Cod, Mass., headquarters facility. The 936-panel system, among the largest of its kind on Cape Cod, will produce nearly 50 percent of the company’s annual electricity usage.
— Installed late winter/spring 2012
— 936 roof-mounted solar panels
— 225-kW system
— Produces nearly 50 percent of facility’s annual electricity usage
“We’re very proud of this installation,” said Onset’s president Justin Testa. “It’s part of our initiative to be more efficient, to be sustainable, and to be more friendly to the environment. Beyond that, it makes great economic sense, particularly given the high energy-consuming production equipment we use to manufacturer our industry-leading data loggers and monitoring stations on site.”
The solar panels were manufactured in the United States by SCHOTT Solar and installed by Beaumont Solar Co. of New Bedford, Mass. To date, the system has generated nearly 30,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, and is expected to pay for itself in approximately three years.
