Bonfiglioli Inverters Power 170-MW Centinela Project in California
Bonfiglioli USA, a Kentucky-based subsidiary of Bonfiglioli Group, and a global leader in supplying cutting edge utility-scale power conversion system solutions, today announced that it is on schedule to supply its utility-scale RPS Stationsystems for the 170-MW AC Centinela project near El Centro, Calif. The fully integrated 2MVA power platform includes two of its 1MVA modular inverter systems enclosed inside a precast concrete container, and a 2MVA medium-voltage step-up transformer.
Fluor Corporation will build the project for Centinela Solar Energy in two-phases (125 MW AC in phase 1 and 45 MW AC in phase 2) and will interconnect with the San Diego Gas & Electric 230-kV transmission system. SDG&E will purchase the power from Centinela Solar Energy under a 25-year PPA. The construction of Phase 1 is already underway whereby Bonfiglioli will install its systems in multiple blocks starting end of March 2013.
Bonfiglioli USA is proud to be the first to offer one of the most unique solutions to the North American market with its 1000VDC, UL-Listed, modular, multi-MPPT inverters for ungrounded arrays. This distinct feature will add to the cost benefits of the plant. In addition, the modularity of the multi-MPPT architecture ensures maximum energy harvest by increasing availability and lowering failure sensitivity.
“2012 was a landmark year for Bonfiglioli USA in the photovoltaics sector,” said Greg Schulte, President of Bonfiglioli USA. “In 2012, we achieved UL certification of our RPS TL inverters, which has enabled us to secure projects in North America with the same unsurpassed quality and technical innovation that has been deployed in other parts of the world for the past couple of decades. We are pleased to be collaborating with Fluor on the project in California and look forward to successful implementation and operation of the project for many years to come.”
Nohra Nasr, solar business unit leader for Bonfiglioli North America, commented, “It’s been an honor to work with a world-class EPCM and a leader in power generation like Fluor on this high profile project. Fluor’s selection of Bonfiglioli for this project is a sheer demonstration of our robust bankability status and commitment to best serve the PV market by providing products with the highest performance, reliability, and serviceability.”
