Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based solar and renewable energy provider Voltage Energy Group has announced its plans to establish a new global headquarters facility in Roxboro, North Carolina.

The company is set to acquire and upgrade a 72-acre facility complete with just over 246,000 square feet of manufacturing space, representatives say. The move to Roxboro, about 40 miles north of Chapel Hill, strengthens Voltage Energy’s strong foundation in the the Tar Heel State, according to chief technology officer Bob Slack.

“North Carolina has always been the foundation of Voltage Energy,” Slack says. “By expanding our manufacturing footprint and planning for our future Global Headquarters here, we are reinforcing our commitment to customers, partners, and the local community while supporting the long-term growth of the clean energy sector.”

Since its foundign in 2015, Voltage Energy has focused mainly on utility-scale solar projects and electrical balance of systems (eBOS) solutions. While the company also has a European office in Frankfurt, Germany, the establishment of a global headquarters in North Carolina reflects its “long-standing strategy of building and scaling its global operations from its American roots.”

The facility is expected to create new jobs and support the local economy. In an effort to realize its long-term plan for the site, Voltage will maintain an “elevated level of investment” in the Roxboro community over the next three years, officials say.

Bolstering local manufacturing

Voltage Energy’s move was met with a warm reception from the local community, including Kyle Puryear, the chairman of the Person County Board of Commissioners. The move is expected to strengthen the local manufacturing and renewable energy scene in and around northern North Carolina, with Voltage demonstrating “consistent year over year growth” during its time in Chapel Hill.

“We are grateful that Voltage has chosen our county as the home for its operations, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership,” says Puryear. “The company’s presence will create quality jobs, strengthen our tax base, and contribute to our ongoing efforts to attract innovative industries for a diversified manufacturing sector that is needed to bolster our local economy.”

Roxboro mayor Cynthia Petty also extended a warm welcome to the group, saying she is “committed to working with and supporting Voltage in any way possible.”

Voltage will also be working in the local educational community, according to Jody Blackwell, the dean of technical and manufacturing programs at Piedmont Community College. The new ability will be near the school’s main campus, she says, and will bring “fresh opportunities and a new energy” to the area.

“This new presence will strengthen the partnership we have with local industry and create additional pathways for student training, employment, and community growth,” Blackwell says. “We are fortunate that they chose Person County and are excited to offer support to them as we begin this new partnership.”
